The XXth WAIPA World Investment Conference #WIC15Milan held on June 14-16, 2015 is now available as a full report here. The theme was "Converging Best FDI Strategies" and the conference also focused on cross-border investment; the role of FDI in productivity and on feeding the planet.

The conference was held at Palazzo Lombardia, Auditorium Testori and was attended by some of the greatest names in FDI policy, politics and government. They included the Vice Minister of Italy, Carlo Calenda; Director General of UNIDO, LI Yong; Nobel Laureates, Micheal Spence and Eric Maskin, Director of the Investment and Enterprise Division of UNCTAD James Zhan and Board Chair of IEDC, Joann Crary. OECD, ILO, and IPA representatives from diverse countries also attended.


With great aspirations to propel WAIPA forward, the General Assembly elected The Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency (ISPAT) to hold the presidency. Newly elected President of WAIPA, Arda Ermut in his message said that WAIPA would strengthen advocacy on behalf of IPAs with their respective governments; determine new ways in which to reinforce IPAs and to help them achieve more robust FDI matrices.

The General Assembly also elected both Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and The Italian Trade Agency (ITA) to hold the vice-presidency. President Arda Ermut welcomed the new steering committee and hoped that it would be historic in its leadership of this valued organization for its term.

Tunisia Investment Forum (WAIPA MENA REGIONAL MEETING)

The regional meeting was hosted and organized by Mr. Fahad Al Gergawi, WAIPA MENA Regional Director and CEO of Dubai FDI. He also moderated the first session where Mr. Khalil Laabidi, Director General, FIPA Tunisia and Dr. Hassan Fahmy, Chairman - GAFI, Egypt discussed Investment attraction in turbulent times.

Mr. Ismail Ersahin, Executive Director (a.i.), WAIPA Permanent Secretariat delivered the welcoming speech. He said, "We no longer need to push for investments without being selective in the kinds of investments we seek."

Second session was moderated by Mr. Emmanuel Noutary, General Delegate of ANIMA (Cooperation Platform for Economic Development in the Mediterranean).

Mr. Linar Yakupov, former WAIPA South-eastern Europe Regional Director and currently Director of Russian Investment Corporation, joined and discussed: Current trends and international best practices of FDI Promotions in Sustainable Developments and Clean Tech investments.

Southeast Europe Economic Forum (SEEF)

Southeast Europe Economic Forum (SEEF) was held to discuss Challenges Ahead of Economic Recovery at Kempinski Hotel Marinela Sofia, 18 - 19 June 2015. The event explored Opportunities for the Business in Southeast Europe and the Importance of the Financial and Private Sectors; Developing High-tech and ICT Products in SEE and the Balkan Trade Bridge 2015.

The WAIPA Executive Director (a.i.), Ismail Ersahin spoke about the importance of FDI for the economic recovery of the Balkan region. He said, "Developing countries seek investment to accelerate their development efforts. The first thing is to have a strong liberal economic framework in place."
